Abstract
Background: Professionalism has been enumerated among one of the important roles to be achieved by Indian Medical Graduates in new competency-based medical education. However, it has been taught only under the AETCOM module and that too also only in 1st-year undergraduate curriculum and it is not even been assessed; even the AETCOM module has mentioned that assessment of professionalism is not required.

Aims and Objectives: As we know, the things which are not assessed are not been read or learned by the students, so the present study has been designed to get insight of faculties and students about inclusion of professionalism teaching and its assessment in undergraduate curriculum so that proper measures can be taken to assess it properly.

Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional questionnaire-based study has been conducted on 42 faculties and 186 1st-year undergraduate students after taking approval from Institutional Ethics Committee and informed consent from them. 2 different sets of questionnaire (separate for faculties and students) in Google forms have been sent to their emails after explaining the purpose of the study. Results obtained has been analyzed and presented in counts and percentages.

Results: The response rate of faculties and students was 71.4% and 82.3%, respectively. 21 (70%) of faculties and 99 (64.7%) of the students have chosen correct definition of professionalism. Most of them were aware that it has been taught under the AETCOM module. 26 (86.7%) faculties and 112 (73.2%) students have opted that it must be assessed properly.

Conclusions: The results of the study conclude that both faculties and students understand the value of incorporation of professionalism and its assessment in undergraduate curriculum. The results of the study may provide important milestone for need of development of proper assessment method for professionalism assessment for undergraduate students.
