Self-Archiving Policy

The National Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology (NJPPP) supports the broad dissemination and accessibility of scholarly research. As a fully open-access journal, NJPPP permits authors to share their work at different stages of the publication process, subject to appropriate attribution, version identification, copyright, licensing, and scholarly-record requirements.

NJPPP does not impose an embargo period on author self-archiving.

1. Preprints

Authors may post manuscripts as preprints on recognized preprint servers, institutional repositories, or other appropriate scholarly platforms before submission to NJPPP.

Posting a preprint does not, by itself, prevent the manuscript from being considered for publication by NJPPP, provided that:

• the manuscript is appropriately identified as a preprint;

• the preprint is disclosed during submission where requested by the journal;

• any relevant preprint DOI or persistent identifier is provided where available; and

• the submitted manuscript complies with NJPPP's originality, publication-ethics, and peer-review requirements.

Authors should ensure that any subsequent published version clearly identifies the relationship between the preprint and the final published article.

2. Submitted Manuscripts

Authors may deposit the submitted manuscript (the version originally submitted to NJPPP and not yet incorporating peer-review revisions) in an institutional or subject repository or on another appropriate scholarly platform.

Authors should clearly identify the deposited document as a submitted manuscript and should not present it as having been peer reviewed or accepted for publication by NJPPP.

Where appropriate, authors may include a statement such as:

“This manuscript has been submitted to the National Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology (NJPPP) for consideration and has not yet undergone peer review.”

Authors are not required to obtain separate permission from NJPPP to deposit the submitted version.

3. Manuscripts Under Review

Authors may continue to make the submitted version available while the manuscript is undergoing peer review.

Authors should not represent the submitted version as accepted or published and should not alter the archived version in a manner that could mislead readers about its editorial or peer-review status.

Where a repository permits versioning, authors are encouraged to identify subsequent versions clearly.

4. Accepted Manuscripts

Following formal acceptance, authors may deposit the accepted manuscript (postprint) in institutional repositories, subject repositories, or other appropriate scholarly platforms.

The accepted manuscript is the version incorporating the changes resulting from peer review but before final copyediting, typesetting, pagination, and other production formatting.

Authors should clearly identify the document as an accepted manuscript and provide a link to the published Version of Record when available.

5. Version of Record

Because NJPPP is a fully open-access journal, authors may also share the final published Version of Record (VoR) without an embargo.

The Version of Record may be deposited in:

• institutional repositories;

• subject repositories;

• national or disciplinary archives;

• academic or research profiles;

• personal or institutional websites; and

• other appropriate scholarly dissemination platforms.

When sharing the Version of Record, authors should preserve the article as published and should not alter its content in a manner that could misrepresent the official publication.

The shared Version of Record should include, wherever technically possible:

• the full article citation;

• the journal title;

• volume, issue, and publication year where applicable;

• the official article DOI; and

• a link to the official NJPPP publication page or DOI landing page.

6. Recommended Citation and Linking

Authors are strongly encouraged to link all archived or shared versions to the official Version of Record.

A recommended citation is:

National Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology (NJPPP), [Volume], [Issue], [Year]. DOI: [DOI].

Where a preprint, submitted manuscript, or accepted manuscript has its own DOI or persistent identifier, that identifier may be retained. The NJPPP DOI should be added once the article has been formally published.

7. No Embargo

NJPPP does not impose an embargo period on self-archiving.

Authors may share eligible versions immediately:

• before submission;

• during peer review;

• following acceptance; and

• after publication.

No additional waiting period is required by NJPPP.

8. Licensing and Copyright

NJPPP's open-access articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license, unless a specific article is subject to a different clearly stated licensing arrangement.

For versions of an article to which the CC BY-NC 4.0 license applies, users may share and adapt the material for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate attribution is given and the applicable license terms are respected.

Authors and users sharing archived material should:

• retain the authors' attribution;

• identify the journal and published article;

• provide the official DOI where available;

• include or preserve the applicable license information; and

• clearly indicate whether the shared material differs from the Version of Record.

Preprints and other versions deposited before publication may be subject to the terms and license selected by the authors or the repository. Authors are responsible for ensuring that those terms do not conflict with rights granted to third parties.

9. Maintaining Version Integrity

Authors should clearly distinguish among:

• Preprint: a manuscript made publicly available before formal peer review;

• Submitted manuscript: the version submitted to NJPPP for consideration;

• Accepted manuscript/Postprint: the version accepted after peer review but before final production;

• Version of Record: the definitive version formally published by NJPPP.

Archived versions should not be presented as the Version of Record unless they are identical to the officially published article.

Where substantial differences exist between versions, authors should preserve the relevant version labels and provide a link to the Version of Record.

10. Sharing Through Research and Social Platforms

Authors may share links to their NJPPP publications through appropriate scholarly and professional communication channels, including:

• institutional websites;

• researcher profiles;

• academic networking platforms;

• personal websites;

• repositories;

• professional websites;

• email correspondence; and

• social media.

Authors are encouraged to share the official NJPPP article link or DOI whenever possible so that readers can access the authoritative Version of Record and citation and usage information can be accurately maintained.

11. Repository and Persistent Identifier Requirements

Authors are encouraged to use reputable repositories that provide stable access and, where available, persistent identifiers such as:

• DOI;

• Handle;

• ARK; or

• other recognized persistent identifiers.

Authors should ensure that deposited versions remain clearly associated with the published article.

12. Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring that self-archived material:

• accurately represents the corresponding version of the manuscript;

• does not misrepresent the peer-review or publication status;

• includes appropriate attribution to NJPPP;

• includes the official DOI after publication;

• complies with applicable copyright and licensing conditions;

• respects third-party copyright and permissions; and

• does not contain confidential or personally identifiable information that should not be publicly disclosed.

13. Editorial and Scholarly Record

Self-archiving does not replace the official publication record maintained by NJPPP.

The Version of Record published on the official NJPPP platform remains the authoritative version of the article. Where multiple versions are publicly available, readers should be directed to the Version of Record for the definitive published content.

Self-archiving does not alter NJPPP's editorial, peer-review, correction, retraction, or publication-ethics procedures.

If an article is subsequently corrected, retracted, or subject to an Expression of Concern, authors are encouraged to update repository records where technically possible and link them to the relevant NJPPP notice.

14. Compliance with Publication Ethics

Self-archiving must not be used to circumvent NJPPP's policies concerning originality, duplicate publication, plagiarism, copyright, research integrity, or publication ethics.

Authors remain responsible for disclosing relevant previous dissemination of their work and for ensuring that multiple publicly available versions do not create a misleading impression of independent or duplicate publications.

15. Commitment to Open Access and Research Dissemination

NJPPP supports responsible self-archiving as an important component of open scholarly communication.

By permitting immediate sharing of preprints, submitted manuscripts, accepted manuscripts, and the Version of Record, NJPPP seeks to maximize the accessibility, discoverability, and long-term dissemination of research while preserving the integrity and traceability of the scholarly record.
